Summary

CustomWear is an application designed to solve Men’s fashion problems. It also is a platform for growing designers to showcase their works & talents.
Main problems solved through this app;
1. Customize outfits at ease
2. Wear designer outfits
3. Plan & Organize outfits
4. Purchase from well-known brands

Pain points faced

Men find it so tough to get sizes that are comfortable to wear. Plus they struggle a lot to find the right shop that provides the right clothing. Men who work in offices always need to look presentable and also be comfortable in what they wear, which they found hard to find. Most of the time they need to purchase whichever clothing was available and then alter it according to their body shape. It was quite a time-taking, expensive & frustrating process. Designer wears can be bought only once in a while for a function, but not daily as it was very expensive.

Qualitative questions asked were;
1. Should everything you wear match?
2. Does clothing brands actually matter to you?
3. What brand fitting are you the most comfortable in? Would you choose any other fitting, if yes when?
4. Do you think it is worth getting clothes tailored?
5. What are the factors that are keeping you away from custom-tailored clothes?
6. Would you like a stylist designing everything for you when you re unsure what exactly you are looking for?
7. Do you recommend brand/tailors you like to others? What motivates you to do so?
8. What do you look for in a brand/tailor before deciding to buy?

Summary of the responses

Most of the office going men wanted their outfits to be matching as their look would catch a lot of attention and they also wished to look presentable at work. But for events or special occasions, they don’t mind wearing something funky and odd as it would make them stand out. Most of the men explained how important brands were to them as they add value to them and also gives them a good status. They always look at the brand name and how valued it is in the market. Most of the responses received were adjusted with the current fitting options but they aren’t completely satisfied or comfortable in what they were wearing. Though tight fitted clothes are worn the most by users, most individuals felt a bit insecure wearing them. The reason they mainly wore is because of social pressure. All the interviewees used to get their clothes altered according to their needs, but the main reason they don’t do on a daily basis is because of the high price range and also the unawareness of the expertise in small designers. Most people usually ask fashion advises and opinions from friends and family which can get a bit frustrating when there is a mixed opinion involved. Having a fashion adviser to help and guide throughout this process would be a good feature to have. Most of the users recommended brands and or tailors only if they had a good experience with them. They share their experiences and thoughts with their loved ones so that they also get motivated to try out the store. In brands, most people look for the availability of sizes and the value of the brand in the market. While deciding tailors, main factor is the years of experience they have. Most of the users have had a bad and unsatisfactory experience in the past with the tailors which makes them thoroughly check and research the tailor before handing over their clothes.

Design (Solution to all the problems)

So in the initial stage, just to get a hang on how I wanted the screens to look like, I did the low fidelity wireframes for the main few screens.

then came the high fidelity wireframes..

After constant reviewing, I did some iterations and started working on the UI screens

The main screens

User Testing

Finally, user testing was done with 5 users on the finalized screens to confirm whether the users were able to understand all the screens and able to complete the given tasks. All users were able to accomplish the tasks given. One insight received was that a user was unable to imagine while mix-matching clothes and accessories as no mannequin, was put together. The user wasn’t able to imagine themselves wearing it and assuming. The user wished to see everything put together, and then accordingly decide if it looked good or not.
